BGP communities

Complete reference of the BGP Large Communities accepted by Connect-IX (AS215035) in the 215035:X:Y space.

This document lists all the BGP Large Communities (RFC 8092) accepted by Connect-IX SAS. Some communities only take effect under specific bilateral agreements (dedicated sessions, particular upstreams) — contact our support team with any question about their applicability to your configuration.

I. Format and general principles

All the communities described here are BGP Large Communities (RFC 8092), in the 215035:CIBLE:ACTION format.

General convention: X = 0 advertise without prepend (or origin marker) · X = 1 to 5 prepend X times · X = 6 do not advertise. This convention applies to almost all of the tables below; exceptions are flagged explicitly.

Any community outside this format (a large community from another ASN, a standard 32-bit community, an extended community) is filtered at the ingress of our network and is never relayed internally or towards our partners.

Application hierarchy: when several communities are present on the same advertisement, the order of priority is blackhole > per-upstream/specific-ASN tag > global transits tag (100:X) > per-IX tag (2XX:X) > global peers tag (200:X) > default.

II. Blackhole / anti-DDoS (RTBH)

⚠️ Community rejected by default. It only takes real effect on the equipment and partners for which prior activation has been carried out (our NOC, and where applicable the NOCs of our transit providers). Contact our NOC before relying on this mechanism in production.

III. Global actions — all transit providers / all peers

These communities apply simultaneously to all of our transit providers (Zare + PeerEx) or all of our peerings, without having to repeat the instruction for each one.

IV. City of origin (geographic path-prepend)

These communities let you mark the geographic origin of an advertisement and apply a grouped prepend (Zare + PeerEx) according to the site of origin.

DYJIX operates on a closed-by-default basis: without the 215035:212815:0 tag, your prefix stays visible within the DYJIX network but is not relayed to any of their 13 transit providers/peerings.
